brunch #12: loco moco

In case you’ve never heard of loco moco (N never had, it is one of B’s favorites), here is the wikipedia. It’s a Hawaiian dish of white rice topped with ground beef, fried egg, gravy, and (if you’re fancy like B) green onions.

And it is, of course, amazing. Rice + egg + gravy + onions? There’s not really a complicated recipe to follow—once you’ve read the wiki, if you know how to shape ground beef into a hamburger and cook it and/or make an egg over easy, you’ve got yourself brunch. I think the gravy is a simple Chachere’s + flour: B loves improvising gravy to go on everything whenever he has leftover juice from meat he just cooked. It’s almost always a good idea. (Tastewise, anyway. We’re not checking our cholesterol yet.)

There is nothing not to like about this meal. Pair it with kimchi, pineapple, and almond milk, and you’ve got yourself brunch:

We love putting kimchi on everything, to be fair.

a clear shot of the ground beef, gravy, egg yolk all dripping into amazing gooey goodness. We need to make this again soon.
